Use residual land to contribute to public open space where this provides greater benefit than disposing of it.
Land residual to the M4 East project on Wattle Street, Haberfield, has been developed as a neighbourhood park. This is one of several recreational areas created as a legacy of the project which have been handed back to councils. The park draws on the heritage character of the Haberfield Conservation Area, with a formal entry plaza on Walker Avenue leading to a playground for young children and an informal grassed area for passive and active recreation. The park includes an ephemeral detention basin that will be planted to help filter stormwater before it enters nearby Iron Cove.
