For areas bypassed, take advantage of the opportunity to invest in walking and cycling and improve place value in collaboration with the local community.
After being bypassed by the upgraded Pacific Highway, Kempsey town centre has benefitted from improved public open space and an upgraded main street. Now named Macleay Valley Way, the space within the former highway corridor has been reallocated to create an environment encouraging staying and walking, appropriate to the civic and retail focus. Extra crossings have been provided in a short section of shared zone, bus stops have been upgraded and car parking reconfigured, all made possible by removing a vehicle lane.
