Improve amenity for walking and cycling by creating a continuous gradient between property boundaries. This provides better continuity for people walking and cycling wishing to access services and shops nearby, and vertical deflection helps manage the speed of vehicles to suit the context.
Benefits
- Provides a continuous surface level pedestrians and cyclists, indicating that they have priority
- May reduce slip/trip hazards at kerbs for pedestrians and cyclists
- Allows for a continuous look and feel across the space
Considerations
- Additional delineation such as contrasting coloured pavement marking and/or white kerbside linemarking may be considered to improve the conspicuity of the raised intersection
- Tactile cues, such as TGSIs, should be included for pedestrians with vision impairment
- May require reconstruction of drainage across the intersection
- Motor vehicle movements may need to be channelised
