Use a place-based design response to the corridor in its entirety. Consider the public realm as a synthesis of all the interventions, green and blue infrastructure, built form interfaces and adjoining spaces so the solution contributes to the character and function of the whole place.
Benefits
- Uses a transport project or change in movement network to reimagine the public open space of the corridor from boundary to boundary
- Creates a highly memorable, attractive image for a corridor or local place
- High quality public domain design, materials and planting increases the appeal of walking and cycling, retains or increases existing established tree canopy and supports local business and civic activities
- Can be undertaken hand-in-hand with urban renewal to match building uses, social and transport objectives in an area
Considerations
- Major changes to vehicle priorities on the corridor or street may require alterations to the wider movement networks
- May require a high degree of change requiring significant effort to design and then construct
