Introduce bus priority measures including dedicated lanes, or even corridors, highly accessible stops and measures at intersections where needed to provide for bus movements over general traffic. Optionally, designate Bus-Only lanes to further restrict their use by taxis, hire cars and bicycles.
Benefits
- Provides attractive bus services with priority over cars to encourage mode shift
- Enables reliable services by avoiding congestion
- Enables faster services by providing shorter alternative routes for buses
- Safely integrates stops with desirable surrounding locations
Considerations
- Incompatible on corridors with extensive traffic calming such as roundabouts and wombat crossings
- May increase corridor width if applied in unsuitable locations, making stops hard to access
- May be hard to coordinate with general traffic vehicles when not treated as a separate corridor

Example
Epping Road was upgraded to include bus lanes carrying high-frequency services. The construction of the Lane Cove Tunnel allowed the surface road space to be reallocated, adding dedicated space for bus but also a separated cycle path.
