The guide outlines the basic concepts that underpin understanding movement and place, and explains why movement and place need to be balanced in order to achieve a better built environment.
This guidance is relevant for the full range of government and professional organisations who are responsible for the NSW transport network and public places, including government agencies, local councils and industry professionals.
The NSW Movement and Place Framework
The NSW Movement and Place Framework includes several initiatives:
- Practitioner's Guide to Movement and Place provides advice for designers, planners, and project managers working on transport and urban design projects. It presents a process for measuring and evaluating movement and place to set targets, understand existing conditions, generate and compare future options, and recommend a preferred solution.
- Evaluator's Guide to Movement and Place provides advice for decision-makers, project managers, and design review panels. It sets out considerations for evaluating projects in reference to the Better Placed design policy and Future Transport strategy.
- Other guides supplement the Practitioners’ Guide to Movement and Place. They provide advice for transport planners, urban designers, and project managers on specific aspects and applications for the Movement and Place core process.
- Case studies provide precedents and advice for transport planners, urban designers and project managers based on experience gained through specific Movement and Place projects in NSW.
The Framework builds on a body of statewide, interstate and international work. It is being updated and expanded by Transport for NSW and the Department of Planning, Environment and Industry on a regular basis.
