Peripheral urban environments are the large areas between built-up suburbs and rural landscapes. These areas feature a diversity of uses, from residential to light industrial and agricultural and a sparse network of local streets. With few local attractions, there may be some limited walking and cycling as well as people riding horses in some areas. There is often little to no public transport, so most people are reliant upon private vehicles. Main roads in these areas are often movement-focused thoroughfares.
