The Design of Roads and Streets (DORAS) is a practical ‘how to’ manual explaining how we can improve our roads and streets throughout NSW by better understanding their role and context as local places. The manual recognises that roads and streets differ in many ways and provides context-specific design advice based on examples of road and street design solutions from across NSW. The manual includes general design direction for all roads and streets as well as a technical appendix that outlines more detail on specific street design processes and solutions.
The DORAS manual identifies 22 road and street typologies. While this list is not exhaustive, it reflects an aspiration for how roads and streets in NSW should be designed to serve their users and to fit their context. Click on the graphic below to explore each road and street type.
