This page summarises the relevant NSW Government policies that frame the development of options to address issues and opportunities associated with achieving a project or plan’s vision and objectives.
Better Placed is an integrated design policy for the built environment of NSW. It seeks to capture our collective aspiration and expectations for the places where we work, live and play. It creates a clear approach to ensure we get the good design that will deliver the architecture, public places and environments we want to inhabit now and those we make for the future.
Future Transport outlines Transport for NSW’s vision and sets the direction for the future of mobility in NSW. It is our vision to deliver safe, healthy, sustainable, accessible and integrated passenger and freight journeys. The Strategy emphasises the importance of building well-designed transport infrastructure that makes places more liveable and successful.
The Strategy is part of a broader suite of Government strategies and plans guiding integrated land use and infrastructure planning across NSW. Aligning transport and land use planning ensures our regional and metropolitan areas are integrated, connected, and resilient.
Transport for NSW Road User Space Allocation Policy
A Road User Space Allocation Policy has been prepared for Transport for NSW staff to ensure physical and temporal road user space is allocated safely and equitably to support the movement of people and goods and place objectives. The Policy and its supporting Procedure (currently under development) provide a range of general principles as well as considerations around trade-offs or outcomes to be avoided when allocating road space to different road users in transport projects.
Transport for NSW Providing for Walking and Cycling in Transport Projects Policy
This Policy and its supporting Procedure (currently in development) will ensure walking and cycling customers are considered in the development and delivery of all new Transport for NSW projects. This Policy applies to every transport project funded by Transport for NSW. This Policy is particularly relevant to infrastructure projects, where early consideration and delivery of safe, integrated, reliable, accessible and connected walking and cycling infrastructure will enhance the local environment, help to drive behavioural change and achieve a sustained uptake in the mode share of walking and cycling.
